EXPO Ferroviaria 2023, the 11th edition of Italy’s showcase for railway technology, products and systems will take place from 3 – 5 October 2023 at Fiera Milano Rho, Milan, Italy.
EXPO Ferroviaria covers all aspects of railway technology. It provides a showcase for manufacturers in the major fields of rolling stock technology, track and infrastructure and signalling and communications, and also serves as a shop window for suppliers of the many other specialised products essential to the efficient and safe operation of railway and public transport systems. Among these are vehicle maintenance equipment, fare collection systems, rolling stock leasing, electronics for rail applications and cable technology.
The representation of Czech companies is organized under the official participation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) and the Association of Railway Industry Companies (ACRI). 14 Czech companies will present themselves at the joint stand and another 5 at individual stands.
“EXPO FERROVIARIA is of fundamental importance for the Czech railway industry. ACRI members attended this traditional trade fair in large numbers this year. The fair offers them a great opportunity to present themselves on the Italian market,” says Marie Vopálenská, ACRI’s CEO, adding: “It is a unique opportunity to develop business contacts, which brings major business successes, namely, the supply of rolling stock, IT systems, wheelsets or the testing of Italian products by Czech research institutes and laboratories.
Czech footprint in Italy
ŠKODA GROUP – The biggest Czech manufacturer has a lot to offer Italy
Leading European manufacturer of public transport vehicles, Škoda Group, is present on the Italian market. In October 2022, the group opened its sales office in Florence and has already won two contracts this year. The first of these concerns the production of 10 trams for the new tram line in Bergamo. These trams will be equipped with the group’s latest digital solution – the anti-collision system. This will significantly increase operational safety and reduce the cost of repairing vehicles after accidents.
The second order is for the production of coaches for the night lines operated by Trenitalia, which was won by Škoda in consortium with the Italian manufacturer Titagarh Firema. The contract involves the production of up to 370 vehicles for the Milan – Palermo – Syracuse route, with a total value exceeding EUR 730 million.
However, the group has much more to offer Italy than just rolling stock such as trains, trams and metros. Škoda Group has specialised in the production of trolleybuses for more than 88 years. In that time it has produced more than 15,000 units in lengths ranging from 12 to 24 metres. Currently, it is also involved in the development of digital technologies that help operators reduce the costs of maintenance and operation of various types of vehicles.
