BORCAD is responding to market demands and has prepared several modifications of the FLEXIO seat for long-distance and even regional transport during 2023. The impetus for the development process was months of intensive discussions with customers following InnoTrans 2022.
We have already shown some prototypes at the Czech Rail Business Days and also at the Polish TRAKO exhibition. The main change is to enclose the two-seater in one “shell” to ensure sufficient privacy for passengers, and we have also worked on the variability of accessories and materials used. All of this has been made possible by the unique, “flexible” seat design, thanks to which we are able to adapt the final design to the customer’s requirements without changing the basic ergonomics of the seat.
That this is the way to go was also demonstrated by commercial success: in October, we were selected as the supplier of first-class seats for the existing fleet of sixty RailJet units of the Austrian Railways (ÖBB). This is a seat replacement after 15 years and our FLEXIO 2.0 seats will replace the current supplier’s first-class seats. This is a total of about 4,500 seats and deliveries will run from the end of 2024 to 2028 (preliminary design in the visualisation below).
