ETCS (European Train Control System) stands for European Train Control System, which will gradually replace about 20 different national train protection systems and enable comprehensive safety assurance on Europe’s main lines. Operation of the system is provided by two main parts, track-side and vehicle.
The vehicle part of the ETCS system consists of the central computer (EVC), the recording unit (JRU), the display unit (DMI), the portable balise module (BTM) and odometry.
The following are used to connect the individual parts of the system:
– ÖLFLEX® TRAIN 331 600V single conductors.
– Multi-core unshielded and shielded cables: ÖLFLEX® TRAIN 340 / TRAIN 345 C
– MVB bus cables: UNITRONIC® TRAIN MVB
– Ethernet cables: ETHERLINE® TRAIN FLEX Cat.5e / TRAIN FLEX Cat.7
All of these types meet the fire resistance requirements of EN45545 for rolling stock. More information on the materials listed, including their availability can be found on the Lapp website
