People in the city of Prešov can look forward to six new trolleybuses delivered to its streets by Škoda Group. The new 18-metre vehicles will complement the fleet of 25 Škoda trolleybuses that the Group has delivered here in recent years under a contract from 2016. Škoda Group won the tender for the purchase of the partial trolleybuses, which will be co-financed by EU funds.
Slovak cities are among the main customers of trolleybuses, whose production is the responsibility of the Components & Bus Mobility division within Škoda Group. Trolleybuses with the winged arrow emblem can be found in Bratislava, Žilina, Bánská Bystrica and the above-mentioned Prešov.
„Slovakia has long been a key market for us. A wide range of vehicles is available to passengers across our portfolio, whether they are trolleybuses, trams or trains. Trolleybuses from our production are a reliable Czech product that ensures emission-free sustainable transport in cities,“ says Petr Novotný, President Components & Bus Mobility at Škoda Group
To Prešov, the Group will deliver trolleybuses of the Škoda 27Tr type, which are low-floor vehicles that enable comfortable transport even for people with reduced mobility or parents with prams. Comfort during the journey is ensured by powerful air conditioning, with separate zones for passengers and the driver’s cab. The vehicle is also equipped with a passenger counting device, Wi-Fi connection or USB sockets that allow passengers to charge their mobile phones or other electronic devices. A camera system ensures the safety of passengers and other road users.
The traction battery is also an essential part of the trolleybus. This will enable sections without catenary lines to be crossed, thus ensuring service even to more remote locations. The battery’s capacity allows the trolleybus to travel a distance of at least 12 km.
