In 2018, Czech Railways ordered 50 long-distance cars from the Siemens-Škoda consortium. BORCAD has been awarded a contract to supply seats to these cars, with approximately 330 seats on each of the 10 Siemens Viaggio Railjet trains purchased. For BORCAD, this means the first project for the ŠKODA Group in long-distance transport after circa 6 years.
In the first travel class, COMFORT seats will be installed in a similar configuration as in the first class of modernized Pendolino trains or bistro cars. A novelty is the installation of a wireless mobile phone charger for all double seats.
The new FLEXIO seat will have its premiere in the second travel class. After its introduction at InnoTrans 2018, in the following months we followed feedback from potential customers, modified the seat conceptually and prepared it for serial production. For the ČD 50 project, we supply FLEXIO as a double seat, 450 mm wide between the armrests. Passengers will have two side and one central armrest, 230 V power socket and two USB ports. The back cover of the seat is equipped with a folding table, a newspaper net, of course there is a footrest offering four different positions.
The final assembly has been taking place at the Škoda Vagonka plant in Ostrava since March 2020, and the seats for the last car should be delivered during summer 2021.
