BONATRANS finalizes deliveries of wheelsets for 16Ev EMUs. The four-car broad gauge electric multiple units are intended for Latvia where they will introduce a completely new standard in transportation. The trains are fully air-conditioned, they are equipped with ergonomically optimized seats and well-arranged information system.
In total, thirty-two trains will have been delivered by the end of 2023. The design of the trains is based on the service-proven RegioPanter EMU platform. The new two-system EMUs with the maximum operational speed 160 km/h are primarily intended for suburban transport on the lines from Riga to Aizkraukle, Tukumsu, Skulte and Jelgava.
The powered wheelset with the weight 1784 kg is designed for the axle load 19 t. The non-powered wheelset with the weight 1407 kg is designed for the axle load 20.5 t. The powered axle is manufactured from the EA4T steel grade, the non-powered axle from the EA1T steel grade. The axles are cold rolled, their length is 2415 mm, the journal diameter is 120 mm and the wheel seat diameter is 222 mm. Their weights are reduced by the longitudinal bore with the diameter 60 mm. Both powered and non-powered wheelsets are equipped with wheels of the same design, with the diameter 890/810 mm. The wheel is manufactured from the Marka 2 steel grade according to the Russian GOST standard. Its weight, including the brake discs, is 742 kg. The design of both powered and non-powered wheelsets has had to meet the requirements of European as well as Russian standards.
“By our participation in this project together with Škoda Transportation, we strengthen our position in the whole Baltics. We would like to maintain the position of the majority supplier of wheelsets and their parts in Latvia as well as in Estonia and Lithuania, and similarly as in other EU countries”, said Jakub Weimann, the member of the board of directors.
BONATRANS supplies wheelsets and parts thereof into 80 countries on five continents.
